Of Nursery Rhymes and Lullabies

Rock-a-bye baby,
On the tree-top,
When the wind blows,
The cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks,
The cradle will fall
Down will come baby,
Cradle and all!

Who is the fucking person with a right mind would write such a morbid song, much more a nursery rhyme? That person was sick! S/He either dislikes babies or kids in general or had a horrible childhood.

I was reading this book to my two year-old and the picture of a baby snugly hanging by the tree trunk kind of disturbed me for a while. And so, I took the time to read each rhyme and analyse them.

There's nothing wrong with a mouse running up and down an old clock, I guess the house was simply infested. Little Miss Muffet got scared away by a spider, hmm no harm in that. However, an old woman living in a shoe with so many children, that's a bit odd. I mean, she’s old… those couldn't be her kids, grandchildren, maybe. How inconsiderate her children were! Why would they dump all their spawn to poor old Mum? But if these kids were taken from the streets, shouldn't she put them on an orphanage or something – where they can be properly taken cared of? All they have for dinner was a broth, no breads nor dessert – just broth. And they were leaving in an old shoe of Chrisssake! Man, that house probably stinks!

Jack and Jill went up the hill all right – to fetch some water, so I guess Jack isn't some royalty. He fell and broke his crown, which actually meant he either cracked his head or broke his neck. Have you ever thought where did he end up? Did he even survived the fall? Did he snuff it? And yet children around the world kept on singing about his blunder.
